Paris, March 4 2014
Dear Presidente,
In response to the recent violent confrontations in the Ukraine, the International Union of Architects (UIA) wishes to assure Ukrainian architects and citizens of its sympathy and of that of the architects worldwide.
The UIA sincerely hopes that a peaceful solution to this conflict may be found through dialogue and that fundamental civil rights will be respected.
Founded in 1948 in the aftermath of the Second World War, the UIA sought peace and cooperation between nations in a time of rebuilding. Architects, according to the preamble of the UIA Statutes, “are resolved to contribute to the progress of human society and to the strengthening of peace”.
This idea has never ceased to be one of the core principles of the UIA and of its Members. And we hope that it can be applied to any conflict worldwide.
With kindest regards,
Albert Dubler
UIA President
